Q.  Do you offer a free consultation?
The usual $50 consultation fee will be waived if you notify the scheduling receptionist that Dr. Summers has offered you a complimentary consultation.

Q.  What makes a good candidate for cosmetic procedures?
The ideal candidate for cosmetic surgery is looking to obtain specific improvements for their own benefit. Ideally, patients should be within 20 pounds of their ideal body weight to obtain optimal results.

Q.  How safe are cosmetic procedures?
Approximately 1% of cosmetic surgery patients experience a complication requiring additional treatment. This complication rate is higher for specific procedures and this will be discussed at the time of your consultation.

Q.  What are the risks involved with aesthetic/cosmetic surgery?
Every surgical procedure has potential risks of bleeding, infection and scarring. Other risks are dependent on the procedure performed.

Q.  Please describe the entire process, including pre and post surgery.
Patients desiring cosmetic surgery will have two consultations before scheduling their procedure. This ensures that all questions have been answered and that all pre-operative workup has been completed. The entire process is in our very private and discreet outpatient surgery center and medical spa.

Q.  How long do most procedures typically take?
Breast Augmentation - 1 hour; Tummy Tuck - 3 hours; Facelift - 4 hours; Liposuction - variable (depending on areas treated).

Q.  Where will the surgery be performed?
We perform 95% of cosmetic surgery procedures in our State licensed, Medicare certified, out-patient surgery center.

Q.  What kind of anesthesia will be used? How long will the anesthesia take to wear off?
General Surgery is utilized for major procedures. Minor procedures are under IV Sedation or local anesthesia.

Q.  How do you make sure there are no complications? What if there are complications?
If any complications arise, we will provide you with on-going care and treatment with no additional surgeon's fee.

Q.  How long can I expect to be out of work?
  Liposuction - 2 days; Breast Augmentation - 2 days; Tummy Tuck - 7-10 days; Facelift - 7-10 days.

Q.  How long does it typically take to heal? Will there be any visible scares or bruises?
Bruising typically resolves within 1-2 weeks. Scars are typically well hidden. Full healing is dependent on the amount of the surgery performed.

Q.  What is the type of Laser you use?
We utilized the latest in long-pulse neodynium YAG lasers to effectively treat even darker skinned individuals. Additionally, we have ELOS technology available to reduce fine or poorly pigmented (white or gray) hair.

Q.  What areas can be treated?
  Any area can be treated.

Q.  Can you treat any skin types and or colors?
We can effectively and safely treat any skin type.

Q.  How many treatments does it take?
Typically, at least 4 treatment sessions are required to eliminate approximately 90% of hair follicles.

Q.  How long does it last--is it permanent?
If a hair follicle is effectively treated it will never grow again.

Q.  How does laser compare to electrolysis?
In our experience, the laser is much more effective than electrolysis.

Q.  How long does a treatment take?
Treatments range from about 10 minutes for small areas (lip or chin) to one hour for larger areas (entire back).

Q.  How much does it cost?
Treatment costs range from $200 for the upper lip to $600 or more for legs or back treatments.

Q.  Is there any special skin care needed before a treatment?
Please shave the area to be treated 2 days prior to the laser hair removal procedure. The procedure targets the hair follicle, which is deep in the skin. Hair above the surface of the skin "gets in the way" of the treatment.

Q.  Are there any side effects?
Some patients have some redness or temporary irritation of the treated area. This typically resolves within several hours.

Q.  How is the skin after the treatment?
The skin may be slightly red after the treatment. Rarely, welts are present for several hours or longer.

Q.  Does the treatment hurt?
A mild burning sensation is usually felt. This is usually very well tolerated by patients.
