Frequently Asked Questions |
Q. |
Do you have a customer satisfaction or refund policy? |
If a client terminates financial planning services after work has begun, they are charged only for the percentage of work already performed. If a client terminates an investment advisory agreement in the first five business days after entering, the client will be entitled to a full refund of any fees. Thereafter, either the client or the advisor may terminate the agreement at any time. |
Q. |
What are your qualifications? What is your education background? |
InnerHarbor Advisors, LLC has a solid financial planning process. We define your goals and current financial position. We analyze cash flow needs, both now and in the future. We provide recommendations best suited to you and aid in their implementation. We monitor and track your progress online. This allows us to refine and revise your plan along the way. We help secure your financial future. |
Q. |
How are you compensated? How will I pay for your services? |
Q. |
If you are going to manage my account, will you obtain my permission every time you buy or sell something? |
John will be your lead advisor but members of the InnerHarbor team will be available to help you as well. |
Q. |
How many clients do you currently manage? |
We develop financial plans and ongoing financial planning services for clients on a project basis. Financial planning can be combined with investment management for clients who prefer low-cost, all inclusive financial management. |
Q. |
Will you be the only person working with me? |
We do obtain permission from clients before executing any actions. Some clients prefer not to be consulted on every trade and in those cases we will execute discretionary authority. |
Q. |
Do you offer any guaranteed results? |
NO. There are no guaranteed results in the investment world and you should run from anyone who promises them. |
Q. |
How much risk should I be willing to take? |
The first question is how much risk you have to take. If you don't need to take additional risk to reach your goals you shouldn't, regardless of your willingness. If reaching your goals does require taking on risk, the next question is whether you are comfortable taking on that amount of risk. If not, perhaps an adjustment of your goals or savings plans is more appropriate. |
Q. |
Have you ever been charged with any breaches? |
No. The advisors at InnerHarbor Advisors adhere to the highest principles and standards as set by the CFP Board's Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility. |
Q. |
What is your approach to financial planning? |
We develop financial plans and ongoing financial planning services for clients on a project basis. Financial planning can be combined with investment management for clients who prefer low-cost, all inclusive financial management. For pure investment management our fee is based upon the amount of assets under management. |
Q. |
What services do you offer? |
You may find an advisor who is smarter than me. You may also find an advisor who is less expensive than me. You are very unlikely to find an advisor that is smarter and less expensive than me. I have the experience, intelligence and humility to provide you with the best advice for your current situation while recognizing that facts can change and future events can be different than planned. |

Our core service is the development and implementation of a financial plan that helps secure your financial future. As part of that process we also manage the investments of some of our clients. |

We help clients recognize and mitigate risks to their financial position. We specialize in professionals and small business owners. |
Q. |
What is your experience? How many clients do you currently manage? |

John has over 15 years of experience in financial services at both the institutional and personal level. He hold a BA in History from the University at Albany and a MS in Quantitative Methods and Modeling from Baruch College. In addition, John is a CFP® practitioner. Currently John manages over 25 clients. |
Q. |
What financial institution(s) do you represent? |
Only my own company, InnerHarbor Advisors. The value we provide is advice. There are many products that can be used to implement that advice so, in our opinion, it makes no sense to commit to any one financial institution. We take an open architecture approach that allows us to choose the best investment for our clients. |

Q. |
How long does the process of rolling over a 401K plan usually take? |
Usually less than two weeks but the process can vary depending upon the current custodian of the assets. |
