What makes a good candidate for cosmetic procedures?
A patient with realistic expectations who wants to look and feel better is a good candidate. For liposuction you should not be more than 20% overwieght. Patients desiring breast augmentation do best with a one to two size increase. Cosmetic surgery will make you look better - it will not make you look like someone else or guarantee a better job or life.
How safe are cosmetic procedures?
Nothing in this world is free of risk; however, I make sure that your surgery will be as safe as possible. I use superb anesthesiologists, the latest equipment and have a certified, well equipped operating room and have hospital backup. You are in the best hands in our office.
What are the risks involved with aesthetic/cosmetic surgery?
All surgery carries some risk. Any time the skin is cut there is a scar - we try to hide it and in time it will fade. Bruising disappears quickly as does swelling. Complications such as bleeding and infections and anesthetic problems are rare; however, I explain what you should look for and I can be reached after hours to deal with problems.

How long do most procedures typically take?
Most cosmetic procedures take me between 1 and 2 hours to perform. Before surgery, we give you a time frame as to how long you will be in the office and when you can expect to go home. I like you to recover comfortable and go home after an hour or two in the recovery room.

What kind of anesthesia will be used? How long will the anesthesia take to wear off?
I have worked with the same anesthesiologists for years; together we determine the best and safest anesthesia for you. You usually walk from the operating room table to the recovery room and nap for an hour or two until you feel well enought to go home. You must have someone to take you home.

This surgery corrects droopy upper eyelids and baggy lowers. Some young people have had baggy lower lids for years, this can be fixed easily. Upper eyelid hooding is also corrected.

What makes you different from other otoplasty specialists?
I learned my ear surgery at Manhattan Eye and Ear hospital where this surgery was invented in the 1800s. We had a wealth of patients and knowledge and my technique has evolved to one perform all the time, and teach to young plastic surgeons. It is reliable and safe. Your ears will thank me for their improvement.
What makes a good candidate for this procedure?
A good candidate for this procedure has realistic expectations. This surgery will improve the way you look. It will not get you a new job or make you a movie star. If you are happier with your new appearance then perhaps your personality will brighten up, but there is no guarantee of that. Healing takes time, don’t expect miracles – that is only in the movies. We do real surgery on real people.

How long does this procedure typically take?
One to two hours.
How long does it typically take to heal? Will there be any visible scares or bruises?
There are three phases of healing. The first is usually 5 – 7 days when most of the black and blue and swelling resolves. Improvement is rapid for the next 3 to 12 weeks. Then it takes up to a full year for the scars (if any) to mature and the final result to be seen. Facial make up can be worn after a few days and you return to full activities and exercise at 3 to 6 weeks.

How do you make sure there are no complications? What if there are complications?
I am a meticulous careful surgeon who utilizes the best equipment and techniques yet no one can guarantee that a complication will not occur. I inform my patients as to what can happen. If there is a problem, they know what to look for and how to get me. In my 25 years in practice, I have seen most everything and am comfortable taking care of my patients’ problems on the rare chance they occur.

The consultation starts the process by finding out what you want and why. I then educating you as to what I can do for you, the costs and the process. At the pre-op visit, fees are paid, photos taken, prescriptions given and informed consent obtained. All questions are answered. Post-op visits are included at no charge and your progress explained.
How long can I expect to be out of work?
This depends on the type of surgery. Most of the time you can return to work within 3 to 7 days. If there is facial bruising, you can usually cover it with makeup within a few days and be back at work quickly. Tummy tucks and breast reductions may take longer. Each procedure and patient is different, so we discuss it before.
Where will the surgery be performed?
Most surgery is done on an outpatient basis and is performed in my AAAASF accredited operating suite. If hospitalization is needed or desired, I am on staff at both Lenox Hill Hospital on 77th Street and Park Avenue and Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital on 64th between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.

To provide the best patient safety we need to cooperate. You must give your full medical history and complete list of medications. Do not take aspirin, Advil, or Motrin before surgery (they can cause bleeding). Read the booklet I give you before surgery. Follow the post op instructions.
