Small-group educational cruises aboard the "VIRGINIA TREASURER", a privately-owned 30' enclosed pontoon boat with an observation deck top-side, home-based near historic Williamsburg/Jamestown Island.
The Skipper is Steven C. Smith, a skilled Historical Interpreter, and patented owner of "Henricus Colledge (1619)r, America's 1st College ~ Revived". He is also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxilliary. The First Mate is Steven F. Petrine, a professional historian. The Va Treasurer comfortably seats 10 passengers, is a very stable craft, and its flat deck arrangement encourages teaching and discussion.
Typical cruise is about 3 hours, departing from the Jamestown Yacht Basin, out thru the "Hole-in-the-wall" to the front of 1607 Jamestown Island (site of the first permanent English settlement in America...and of the modern-day archeological dig that has uncovered the first fort), over to the nearby Jamestown Settlement (dock-site of the 17th century replica ships "Susan Constant", "Godspeed", and "Discovery"...and the full-scale reconstructed Fort), then back thru the Hole and along the backside of the Island (rather different feeling than the frontside), and then returning to the Yacht Basin. Cruises includes excellent photo-ops, light snacks, and a first-class learning experience about America's beginnings that is not possible any other way. More than sight-seeing...way more!
